Monday, April 24th

Mandatory Football Meeting Monday April 24 in room 245 during lunch. Please bring your team camp fees.

Did you know our school is participating in EPA air quality flag program? Our school website provides daily updates about air quality in Chapel Hill. May is Asthma Awareness month, Air Quality Awareness week is May 1st-5th, World Asthma Day is May 2nd. There are flyers posted around the school.

Interested in running for a position in Student Government for next school year? There will be an interest meeting, today during lunch in the Slant Room, hosted by your current SGA officers to go over the offices, campaign process and answer any questions. We will also be distributing the candidate application. If you're even remotely interested in running for a position, make sure to swing by.

There will be a speech & debate team meeting today after school in the Slant Room. Members should attend.

ECHHS Science Olympiad Varsity Team members, please meet in Ms. Allen's room for the first 5 minutes of lunch today for a team picture with the trophy. Thanks!

Are you interested in an immersive, international bridge year experience? Then Global Citizen Year may be the perfect choice for you! Come to Madame Brooks' room 140 in lower B today at lunch to hear from a Senegal alumni and from an East student about to embark on her adventure. Hope to see you there!

Blue Ribbon Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) will be having a meeting today during lunch in Ms. Barnes' classroom, Room 185.

Want to run for a student government position? Applications have been released!! To access the application, go to eaststudgov.org. Be sure to fill out the paper AND online portions by May 8.

Congratulations to Jack Welby who has received the Harvard Book Prize for East this year. Jack was nominated for his exceptional academics, community service, and activities.

The East Varsity boys tennis team will host the PAC-6 conference tennis tournament today.. Events will begin after lunch and will continue after school until 6:00 pm today. Admission is free all staff and students are welcome to attend.

Feeling down? The idea of AP Exams got you in a funk? Well Student Government has your cure! That's right, PUPPIES are BACK! Today during lunch, come outside near the tennis courts in order to play, hang out, and de-stress with some cute dogs! It will be PAWesome!

East Dance Ensemble will have their annual spring performance during lunch in the auditorium on Friday, April 28th. In this show, different styles were combined to compare and contrast the various forms of dance. Come and see their last show of the school year!

Thursday, April 27th

Congrats to the Men's Varsity tennis team. The Wildcats did very well in the PAC-6 tournament yesterday. Senior Kevin Huang won the the top singles spot. Junior Ben McLean tied for third. In doubles Graeme Zimmermann and Rahul Singh tied for third in doubles. All four will advance to next weeks Regional Tournament in Greensboro, NC

Attention all Oceans members, we will have a meeting this Thursday. We will meet in Dr. Snyders room, room 230, at lunch. See you there!

Red Cross is hosting a blood drive TODAY! Walk ins are welcome throughout the day! Please come out and donate with a chance of winning a $1,000 gift card!

Are you 18 or older? If so, come out to the blood drive in the same gym today and register to become a bone marrow donor!

Is genetics really ethical? Should we change what makes us human? Come to the slant room tomorrow at lunch to meet Dr. Eric Juengst, the head of bioethics at UNC, to discuss the implications of genetic engineering on morality and the human race! You may get extra credit for your science classes!

mayday mayday mayday! Calling for tampon and pad donations during may! Access to menstrual products is one of the many issues facing cisgender homeless women, so all donations will go to the Compss center, a local women's shelter. Stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks. Your support is instrumental- or instru-menstrual!

Prom will be held April 29, at the Durham Convention Center, 9pm- 12am. The theme is "A Night In Paris." Tickets will be sold April 17- April 28 during lunch in the Black Box. Prom tickets are $45 apiece. if your date doesn't attend East, please visit the school's web site, and obtain the information packet which MUST be filled out, and turned in to Ms Johnson, by April 21st.

Next Week is Mental Health Awareness Week, please keep your eyes out around school for resources that will be advertised to help with Mental Health. We are also planning to "Turn East Green" on May 4th by encouraging everyone to wear green on Thurs May 4th to raise awareness for Mental Health.
